The Mesopotamia Social Forum, which agrees to the principles of the World Social Forum, took place in Diyarbakir at Sumerpark Comunal living space between 26-29 September 2009. The forum in which thousands of activists from more than 50 countries as from the Middle East, Europe, Latin America participated, discussed the struggles against war and neo-liberal policies, the women movement, environmental movement and the youth movement, the need for a new world and the struggle for liberation. The number of participants, its diverseness, and the enthusiasm gave us the power to continue this social forum.

We believe that in order to remove the obstacles in front of economy, society, language, culture, free thought and the basis for democratic relations and to overcome artificial borders among the peoples of the Middle East and Mesopotamia, a free Mesopotamia and a peace in the Middle East is most needed.
In the forum it was stressed that the historical and social marching needs to be continued more freely within a system of democratic civilization. The forum dramatically revealed the lacking of the European democracy, the hypocrisy of the Western civilization, the inside of the capitalist system, the character of
the dominant men and the real world of the women.

It was also stated that the unity of collective of the peoples is required as a solution to the social problems in the lights of democratic socialism and to the occurrences during the struggle for freedom for the modern life and against dogmatism, patterns and narrow perspectives. In that sense, it was pronounced in all sessions that Mesopotamia, where the natural society is struggling for life, has the historic and cultural background for creating a free and democratic Middle East.
In the discussions one of the important issues that was stated was the ecological destruction in the name of development
. As a result of the denial of the nature, the forests are being burned and dangerous thermical and hydroelectirical power plants are constructed.  At the same time the destroying security dams were discussed in the title of “the use of water against human and nature”. Against these destroying dams which will leave Hasankeyf beneath the water and which will be constructed in Munzur an effective struggle is decided.

To support the Palestinian people, the returning right of the Palestinian refugees to their lands who were displaced in 1948 and support to the struggle of Palestinian people for the auto-determination is stated.
We see all methods of self defense as a social right against all types of invasion and exploitation in the Middle East.
It was stated in the forum to support the resistences of Palestinian, Iraqi, Lebanese and Kurdish people and to support the protest against Israeli Zionism. The necessity of unity of the struggles in the Middle East is stated in the forum.
We are calling all
of the Mesopotamia Social Forum participants to organise together the European Social Forum will take place in Istanbul in 2010.
It is our mutual decision to start activities for the organisation of new MSFs with a higher participation and thus empower solidarity for preparatory meetings in other countries.

Freedom definitely will win on these lands…
Freedom or None.
